Eucalyptus radiata is a variety of Eucalyptus trees that produces an essential oil with a milder and softer aroma than that of the strong and sharp aroma of the globulus type. It is also considered to be more gentle due to its lower cineole content. Cineole is the main component in both eucalyptus type oils. Eucalyptus radiata variety has up to about 70% cineole content vs the Eucalyptus globulus, which has up to 85% cineole content. The differences between the 2 oils are minor, however some prefer the pleasant and more gentle aroma of the radiata variety.
Eucalyptus oil is known to support the respiratory and immune system having properties to help relief common cold discomforts.
As eucalyptus is an air purifier, adding to a diffuser is helpful when someone is sick at home or in the office to reduce germ exposure in the air. If you feel a cold coming on, use a few drops in a tissue and inhale or add a few drops to a diffuser to allow the refreshing aroma of eucalyptus to support your wellness.
Eucalyptus is a decongestant and can help open the airways and allow for clear breathing. Schnaubelt recommends Eucalyptus used in the diffuser or steam inhalation for sinusitus, rhinitis and bronchitis. Organic eucalyptus radiata has expectorant properties which helps support the break down and clearing of mucus.
Eucalyptus can be used in many applications for an energizing feel, add to lotions, shampoos, steam inhalation, foot soaks, massage oil blends, compress or bath.
