Essential Oil Dilution Chart
Topical usage guide for making massage oils, blends, salves, lotions and other skin applications.
We have provided the equivalent teaspoon measurements to make it easier for you to use. To make your own blends, decide the amount of base you want to use and the % dilution. For example, if you decide to make a small batch of a blend at a 3% dilution, start with 5ml, which is equal to 1/6 oz or 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and then add your 3 drops of essential oil.
1% Dilution - Suitable for everyone, specially children, elderly, pregnant, or compromised immune system.
2% - 3% Dilution - Suitable for daily use, lotions, soaps, massage blends.
5% - 10% Dilution - Acute situations depending on severity of localized issues such as muscle sprains, tendon/ligament damage, etc. Use for short term only.
1- 3% - Green - Generally safe, suitable for most and tolerated well.
5 - 10% Yellow/Red - Use caution when blending in higher dilutions and always test on your skin prior to using.
