Lavender - A Must Have in the Kitchen

Lavender - A Must Have in the Kitchen

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is the mother of all oils and a personal favorite. Lavender essential oil has a long list of therapeutic uses for the emotional as well as physical bodies.

Lavender's unique subtle energetic qualities are harmonizing to the nervous system, having a calming and balancing effect on mood and the emotions. All of these benefits give Lavender a special place in the aromatherapy world.

Lavender is made up of mostly 2 components responsible for its skin healing and calming properties, Linalool and Linalyl acetate.  Lavender's skin healing abilities were first discovered by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a french chemist, when he burned his hand in a laboratory accident and dunked his hand in the nearest place, a jar of lavender essential oil. He later realized how quickly his hand had healed from the burn and the minimal scarring he had left.

Having Lavender in the kitchen is a complete saver, having burned myself so many times from cooking, it is now a staple in our home for minor burns and cuts that most often happen in the kitchen.

If you have ever burned your hand or fingers while frying something, you know what I mean, the pain from a burn can hang around hours after the initial burn.

Here is how to use Lavender for burns

Apply 1 drop of lavender (neat) as soon as the burn occurs.

Reapply every 10 minutes for 30 minutes or until pain has subsided but for no more than 1 hour.

To minimize scarring, massage Foraha oil on the affected skin 2x daily.

Remember to not use neat or undiluted lavender oil on any open wounds or broken skin.  If you have an open wound or broken skin, lavender must be diluted with a carrier oil before applying to skin.
